Library Reserves During Exams
QUESTION/SUGGESTION: During the study period for exams, could the front desk (and B1/B2) stay open longer? This evening I tried to get a book out of course reserves at 8:30 and was told that I couldn't because the front desk was closing at 9 PM. I understand that not many people go to the library on Saturday night during the semester, but during the week before exams, there are a considerable number of students in the library on Saturday night, and I think that the front desk should be open like it is during the rest of the week. Alternatively, it would be nice to have some sort of "honor system" in which a student who wants to check out a book from course reserves at 8:30 PM is trusted to return the book four hours later.
ANSWER: Thank you for your suggestion and concern. The library relies on student assistants to cover many of the library's hours during our 24/7 schedule. Those student assistants also need hours to prepare for exams, so that is one reason library services stop at 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights. We will continue to discuss and investigate various options for reserve readings.
